Undoubtedly, the movie receives the highest rating for the great costumes, superb photography, good production values, well-chosen sets and locations, spectacular drama and upbeat background music, nevertheless, it is plagued with a poor screenplay, no storyline and horribly written dialogues. Director Acharya’s skills are dull and the pathetic plot is terribly executed. What starts off as an average fare turns into unbearable and torturous in the second half. A chance to recreate the drama of 1790-1806 even misses to evoke patriotic feelings. What’s more is that YRF spent a bomb on VFX and the impact is negligible. Music is utterly disappointing and not even one song is a chartbuster. The editor falls asleep on the job and at some point, the length (164 mins) is felt. Amitabh Bachchan is the only saving grace but after a few scenes, he too becomes repetitive. Aamir Khan disappoints to no end! Mr. Perfectionist fails miserably in selecting the right script. He is of no match for Johnny Depp’s performance in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. Katrina Kaif looks good but only in two dance numbers (and the choreography keeps up with the modern era!), otherwise her acting is utterly pathetic! It seems like Fatima Sana Shaikh’s first film ‘Dangal’ was a fluke. Her acting is mind-numbing. With no entertainment and lacking emotional appeal, watch at your own risk!

Released in over 7000 screens worldwide (5000 Hindi/Tamil/Telugu and overseas), the entire cost (Rs. 300 Cr) has already been recovered from satellite, digital and other rights, especially in China. Below average promotions, poor trailers and negative word of mouth will take a heavy toll on collections at the box office. By this weekend, the film is expected to do Rs. 150 Cr business due to the holiday season, but thereafter, it will struggle.
