In an interview with a leading portal last year before the release of ‘Tubelight’, Salman Khan said, “My films are critic-proof. I am telling them now: go give my film minus 100 stars, why just zero. Let’s see how that pans out. My fans will anyway watch my films and that’s my reward. It only makes them (critics) look like a bunch of idiots.” He’s back with ‘Race 3’ this Eid which, yet again, is not your critic-friendly film.
The trailer of ‘Race 3’, especially its dialogues are getting trolled brutally on social media. Recently an insider informed us how Daisy Shah faced the stage-of-sorrow over her thrashed “business” dialogue. But despite every negative nitpicked thing, I think ‘Race 3’ might surprise big time emerging as a hit.
Couple of months ago when Varun Dhawan’s ‘October’ released, there was a debate of how people are more interested in watching entertaining films than exploring heavy-hearted topics at the cinemas. Yes, ‘October’ turned out to be a decent success but the old-aged debate of what’s the ‘right kind of cinema’ still continues to float. Let’s recall the famous dialogue of Rajat Arora from ‘The Dirty Picture’, “Filmein sirf teen cheezon ke wajah se chalti hai, entertainment, entertainment aur entertainment.” Salman Khan is known as the Blockbuster Khan also because of the similar three reasons.
‘Wanted’ started his golden run at the box office and he still continues to rule it. With ‘Race 3’ he claims to redefine the area of suspense-dramas. “‘Race 3’ is ‘Race’ meets ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!,” said Sallu Bhai at the music launch of the film. Salman swirling a bike singlehandedly while shooting the bad guys, firing a missile launcher making cars explode – now isn’t this what a major chunk of Bollywood audience crave for?
“Salman Bhai cried and got beaten up” – this was one similar response we got from public for the failure of his 2017’s ‘Tubelight’. But he came back in ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and how? Shattering many major box office records!
There are few pluses that might work in the favour of ‘Race 3’ making it a movie not everyone is expecting it to be.
1. The Franchise Advantage
Yes, true Race-fans are disappointed with Saif Ali Khan’s exit but the majority of them will still watch ‘Race 3’ to figure out how wrong the makers have gone to dismantle the franchise. This is an unfair advantage but I can hear Daisy saying, “Our advantage is our advantage, none of your advantage”.
2. The Salman – The Khan
Since the prominence of the ‘Dabangg’ Khan, producers in Bollywood wish just two things; namely cast Salman Khan in their film and release that film on Eid. Many of them have been successful and this time it’s Tips and Remo D’souza. Salman Khan isn’t crying in this one, neither he’s getting beaten up plus he has gone shirtless, enough for Bhai-fans to raid the theatres.
3. Inclusion of the Family Angle
Last but not the least, Shiraz Ahmed – the guy who wrote ‘Race’ & ‘Race 2’, has gone into a ‘Fast & Furious’ mode to include the family perspective along with proper twists and turns. This is a risky gamble but Remo could hit a home run if it’s able to attract the family audience. We’ve seen enough instances seen how the family-audience could catapult any film to another level. Remember Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’?
Eid marks the end of Ramadan fasting and the beginning of a film starring Salman Khan. ‘Race 3’ releasing this Eid, despite everything going negative against it, could turn out to be a blockbuster. 2018 has been a great year for Bollywood and it’s this film which will decide what will be the future of remaining months.
