18 movies, over 20 major characters, innumerous adrenaline pumping moments – all packed in the time slot of 160 minutes. Marvel has gone full throttle to bring every of their major character together and serve us with this magnum opus. ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ was released back in 2015 and in these 3 years, Marvel gave us 7 different films to build the base for ‘Infinity War’.
The trailer of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ made a clear point about Thanos coming back powerful than ever and he’s on a mission collecting all the six infinity stones. The stones are divided amongst all the avengers and to know in detail about that, one has to watch all the 18 movies or if one is too lazy to do that, just go through its recap video available on YouTube. In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ we saw how the Asgardian brothers – Thor and Loki, post defeating Hela, get into a spaceship with their people in search of a new home.
Thanos invades their ship in try to attain the space stone from Loki. The god of mischief acquired that stone from the vault of Odin and tries to defend it. On getting aware about this misadventure, Bruce Banner (Hulk) reunites with Stephen Strange (Dr. Stranger) who then go to Tony Stark (Iron Man) for help. Though the basic plot revolves around Thanos collecting the infinity stones and Avengers defending them, but the makers have made sure to include many twists and turns to it.
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ provides entertainment in wholesale portions. The makers take their own sweet time to build up the base in the first half but it’s the second half where all the magic begins. When you’ve over 20 major characters to manage in a single film, there are times when some things fall short. Some characters, here, also become the victims of lazy writing and you wish to see more of them. But, the writers deserve the benefit of doubt for bringing something of this canvas together.
Without any chaos, without any noise the proceedings flow smooth along with the narration and there’s no confusion to grasp the traits of so many characters. Alike any other Marvel movie we see a larger-than-life climax, but what makes the Infinity War special is its emotional quotient. Not a single Marvel movie till date has come with emotions but this time, it’s different and many will find a deep connect.
Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch are the soul of this film; they share a special bond and with their brilliant performances it comes out naturally. The presence of Mark Ruffalo, unfortunately, gets eclipsed by the grand occurrences happening on screen. Tom Hiddleston as Loki has been wasted, which comes as a biggest disappointment because he was the one who brought down the house in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. Chris Hemsworth as Thor gets his fair share of epic moments but at the same time, we missed the swag of everyone’s favourite Chris Evans (Captain America).
A truly-good bad guy never should put in efforts to prove that he’s a villain and Josh Brolin does a great job as Thanos. Thanks to the make-up and VFX team, his appearance did the half work and the other half was done by his wicked dialogue delivery and expressions. Team ‘Guardian Of The Galaxy’ was their just for the sake of having an infinity stone; Zoe Saldana (Gamora) from them gets the maximum exposure. Scarlett Johansson is as usual the ordinary black widow and don’t have much to do apart from staring with her beautiful eyes. Tom Holland as Spiderman brings in the comical relief which is required in such VFX-heavy movies (DC: Please note).
Alan Silvestri takes up the musical department and does a pretty average job. The theme and music sound good standalone but as every other marvel movie, it gets dumped behind the majestic sequences. Though ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ broke the music curse for Marvel, it seems they’re back to average with ‘Infinity War’.
Marvel, along with roping in the ‘Captain America’ Russo Brothers, also brought Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely to design the screenplay for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and it works big time. Trent Opaloch’s cinematography is breathtaking and many scenes provoke goosebumps.
On the whole, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ lives up to the gigantic expectations and will cater to every kind of audience worldwide. It ends on a cliffhanger which will leave everyone with the hope to see more of it.
