Baaghi 2 Movie Review

‘Baaghi’ (2016) was a hit at the box office which inspired the makers to continue this franchise. Backed by a new director, Ahmed Khan, ‘Baaghi 2’ tries to replicate the successful formula of the first part.

Ronnie (Tiger Shroff) is an army officer posted in Kashmir, living his life in the absence of normal world since years. His long-lost girlfriend Neha (Disha Patani) is married to some other guy and settled in Goa. On one not-so-fine day, Neha’s daughter Riya gets kidnapped and she calls in Ronnie for help. In an awkward position, Ronnie decides to help Neha and arrives in Goa the next day.

Exploring various dark truths about the system, Ronnie decides to find Riya in his own authentic artillery style. Facing cops like LSD aka Loha Singh Dhul (Randeep Hooda) and Shergill (Manoj Bajpayee), Tiger manages to uncover mysteries exploring a major scam.

Every genre has a dedicated fan base and the one ‘Baaghi 2’ falls in, covers the majority of audience here. Action sequences are one of the toughest things to execute in Bollywood and ‘Baaghi 2’s almost every alternative scene has ample of them. This is a mass-friendly concept and people will lap it up, ensuring it to be a successful affair for the makers.

Few people will have their reservations, given that the script suffers from major loopholes. The plot has a series of unconvincing events happening in between, but the good action and performances cover up these flaws. This undoubtedly will be compared with the first part and may receive backlash from people having the “where is logic?” sensibility.

Tiger Shroff gives the best performance of his career. He looks broodingly hot in his shirtless avatar! He makes both guys and girls drool over his physique; obviously for two totally different reasons! Disha Patani gives a beautiful performance and sways us away with her presence. Randeep Hooda and Prateik Babbar emerge as a surprise package. They both manage to entertain us with their hilarious antics. Manoj Bajpayee’s character misses the mark but the veteran actor manages to fill the flaw created in the script.

Action movies always have a huge impact because of their background score. Julius Packiam justifies every chord used, as the background music and the theme song will be hummed by many for a long time now. Unfortunately, the songs do not gell well with the story. Atif Aslam’s “O Saathi” is best of the lot while Jacqueline Fernandez’s “Ek Do Teen” looks stunningly sexy on screen. Sajid Nadiadwala has done some required changes to Adivi Sesh’s original story; this makes the movie look grand and lavish. Santhana Krishnan and Ravichandran’s cinematography is one of the best things about the film. Apart from covering picturesque locations of Goa, the makers also uncover the raw side of the city.

On the whole, ‘Baaghi 2’ is a wholesome entertainer which can be enjoyed by the entire family. Please do not watch it with high expectations but make sure to watch it on a big screen. ‘Baaghi 3’ has already been announced and after watching the film, one realises how this is a smart move by the creators.
