The fashion industry as a whole is now focused on the welfare of the country and the health and safety of our employees, friends & family and the community at large.
Designer Kaveri had launched the Mask India Project that manufactures and distributes masks free of cost. The mask is printed with the map of India that has a heart in the center. The heart has been used to honour the memory of all those we have lost to Covid, while also reminding people that they have to stay safe and take all precautions to keep the country safe.
Through this initiative, the employees who are working from home are kept motivated and busy, as they are paid for every mask they stitch. Special sick leaves has also been introduced for employees and the brand also helps cover medical expenses. Speaking about other benefits for employees, Kaveri says, “We have created ways for our team to work from home. We have given our tailors sewing machines to enable them to work from home as well. We organised vaccination drives for the whole team and their families.”
The masks have a triple layer, and are made with strict hygiene standards but also ensure you can breathe easily. The top layer is made of pure linen. The inner double layers are made of cotton, absorbent and comfortable with soft elastic ear loops. There is also a slot to insert a N95 filter, plus they are eco-friendly as they can be reused by washing and come in unbleached cloth pouches.
Kaveri and The Mask India Project have joined hands with the Bay Area Mask Care Project (USA) and with Chennai Volunteers and the #MaskPodu movements to give away thousands of masks to people of Chennai. Masks are also being distributed through the Suyam Charitable Trust to children in rural areas of Tamil Nadu.
