Director-actor Nishikant Kamat died of multiple organ failure on 17 August. He was 50. Some of Nishikant Kamat’s most popular works include ‘Dombivali Fast’ (2005), ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ (2008), ‘Force’ (2011), ‘Rocky Handsome’ (2016), ‘Drishyam’ (2015) and ‘Madaari’ (2016) among others.
According to Hindustan Times, the director, who was suffering from chronic liver disease and secondary infections, was admitted to AIG Hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, on July 31. In a statement, the hospital said that Kamat was admitted on July 31 with complaint of fever and excessive fatigue. “It was diagnosed that he was suffering from liver cirrhosis for the past two years. Initially, we started antibiotics and supportive medications upon which Mr. Kamat showed improvement, but his condition soon deteriorated with progressive liver dysfunction and drowsiness. He was immediately shifted to the ICU, where his general condition gradually declined. Since yesterday, he developed respiratory failure and hypotension,” the statement read.
He made his directorial debut in 2005 with the Marathi film ‘Dombivali Fast’, which bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi in 2006.
His last directorial was ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’ (2018) starring Harshavardhan Kapoor. As an actor, he was known for his performances in ‘Rocky Handsome’ (2016), ‘Daddy’ (2017),’Julie 2′ (2017) and ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’. He was also the creative producer of the web series ‘The Final Call’ (2019) and Rangbaaz Phirse (2019).
