Though not often, Hindi cinema has explored high-school and college life in a couple of films like ‘Hip Hip Hurray’ (1984), ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992), ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998), ‘Rok Sako To Rok Lo’ (2004), ‘3 Idiots’ (2009), among others. A couple of TV shows and in the recent past, shows in the digital space, too, have tried to give the audience a glimpse into the kind of lives students lead in high schools and colleges. What sets director Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Chhichhore’ apart from these films is that it focuses primarily on hostel life.
If you have spent time in a college hostel in India, there are a lot of things from the trailer you can identify with. As you see the shots in the trailer, you can immediately compare them to similar incidents you might have gone through while studying in college or while staying in a hostel. There is a lso a portion in the film where we see the characters all grown up, in their early-mid fifties. The cast comprises of some solid actors led by Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor. Composer Pritam and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya, who had earlier collaborated with director Nitesh Tiwari, have put together the soundtrack of the film. One of the songs (“Fikar Not”, sung by Nakash Aziz) plays in the trailer.
Director Nitesh Tiwari had earlier directed entertaining and sensible films like ‘Chillar Party’, ‘Bhoothnath Returns’ and ‘Dangal’ and this looks like yet another winner from him.
