It all started with ‘Housefull 2’. Ever since he tasted blood with a INR 1 billion hit, he has scored three more centuries in the form of ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Holiday’ and ‘Airlift’. Now with the release of ‘Housefull 3’ round the corner, all eyes are on how big a hit does the versatile Kumar end up delivering.
“Look at his four centuries so far,” opines an industry veteran, “‘Housefull 2’ was an out and out comedy, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ was south style ‘masala’ and ‘Holiday’ was an action film with a dash of patriotism in there. On the other hand, Akshay gave a performance of the lifetime with ‘Airlift’, a realistic offbeat drama. It is Akshay’s versatility that has to be admired her; he is delivering successes across genres.”
Now with Sajid Nadiadwala and Eros’ ‘Housefull 3’ as his next comic release, it is all coming back full circle for Akshay Kumar who gained an entry into the INR 1 billion Club with a century no less.
“The signs are all there,” a trade expert adds, “The film is set to be a success, given the genre as well as the pan-India audience it is appealing too. See, so far this year there has not been a single film, except for ‘Baaghi’, which has catered to A, B as well C centers. ‘Kapoor & Sons’, ‘Neerja’ and ‘Ki & Ka’ were all multiplex hits. Surprising as it may sound but ‘Housefull 3’ is the first out and out commercial release of 2016.”
No wonder, Akshay Kumar is mighty excited about the film, not just because it belongs to comedy genre (which is his favorite) but also because he is quite positive about reaching out to a very wide segment of audience this time around.
With Sajid Nadiadwala ensuring that the Sajid-Farhad directed film turns out to be a quintessential big screen watch and Eros going all out to give it a wide international release, Akshay can well brace up to add one more INR 1 billion film to his tally.
