After giving us a glimpse of Sultan (Salman Khan) and Aarfa (Anushka Sharma) in two individual teasers, the trailer of Yash Raj Films’ trailer finally enlightened one as to what the film is all about. Ali Abbas Zafar, who has given YRF some good reason to cheer to by delivering two hits (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Gunday) with them, makes no bones about the fact that he follows the grammar of commercial Hindi cinema. With Sultan, featuring Salman Khan in the title role, all set to be his biggest film in terms of scale, one expect him to deliver.
The trailer opens with an interesting music piece which makes way for Sultan Ali Khan (Salman Khan) to showcase his skills as a wrestler. Soon, Aarfa (Anushka Sharma), who also happens to be a wrestler is introduced. Sultan falls in love with the feisty Aarfa and shares his dream of making India proud in the Olympics. Sultan gives up wrestling for some reason, comes back to the sport after a gap of several years and is willing to prove his mettle as a wrestler again.
One gets a sense of déjà vu while watching the trailer as it reminds one of several sport drama/biopics where we witness the struggle of a sportsperson to achieve his goals or reclaim lost glory. Anushka’s portrayal of a female wrestle seems to be interesting but why does she disappear all of a sudden? Do the makers want to keep her character under wraps as it might give away too much about the plot? The supporting parts, played by Amit Sadh and Randeep Hood, could add an interesting layer to the film.
The trailer is a treat for hardcore Salman Khan fans as his presence looms large over it. The plot, from what one see in the trailer, has not really managed to get one excited about the film.
